Vitamin D: an autumn check-in

As the days grow shorter, autumn invites us to revisit our habits. Vitamin D deserves a place in that reflection: it helps the body absorb calcium and supports strong bones and teeth.
It is important to distinguish daylight, which contributes to our daily cues, from vitamin D intake. Spending time outdoors does not guarantee that our nutritional needs are met.
Rather than recommending the same dose to everyone, consider age, diet, supplements already taken and individual health circumstances. Health Canada provides general guidance; a healthcare professional can help determine what is appropriate for you.
If you use a liquid supplement, check the amount of vitamin D in each drop or dose carefully. A higher concentration does not mean you should take more.
