The essence
of Institut Vivasvan

We carry rhythms within us
that respond to those of light, the seasons
and the living world.

A multidisciplinary approach to health

Our health exists in constant interaction with our environment. Natural light, the cycle of day and night, and seasonal changes are among the factors that help synchronize our biological rhythms. More broadly, our physiology is continually changing through its interaction with our lifestyle habits, environment and experience.

Today’s understanding of circadian rhythms, neurobiology and epigenetics offers new ways to observe this interdependence, which ancient traditions expressed through their own frameworks for understanding the living world.

Our mission: education and autonomy

Institut Vivasvan is a space for teaching, support and practice, dedicated to a more conscious understanding of health. Naturopathy, yoga in its full scope, meditation, and somatic and sound-based practices offer different paths for exploration and learning.

Rather than offering a single model, Vivasvan favours an educational approach that helps each person better understand how they function, develop discernment and make choices suited to their circumstances. Autonomy does not mean being alone, but gradually gaining the knowledge and points of reference needed to care for one’s health and whole being.

Vivasvan, the solar principle of life

Vivasvān, “the Radiant One”, is a name for the Sun in Hindu tradition. He represents a divine, living and luminous presence. Counted among the Āditya, the children of Aditi, he belongs to a world in which light, life, order and truth are intimately connected. He brings more than light and warmth: the texts celebrate him as a power that nourishes living beings and sustains the world. The Upaniṣad associate the Sun with prāṇa, the vital breath, while the Mahābhārata describes him as the eye of the universe.

His golden chariot crosses the sky; its wheel represents the divisions of time and its course evokes the ceaseless renewal of life. In a philosophical interpretation, this movement can also evoke cosmic order (dharma). The father of Manu, the progenitor of humanity in Hindu cosmogony, Vivasvān receives the teachings of yoga from Krishna and passes them on in turn.

This light also has an inner dimension. In Hervé Le Bevillon’s interpretation, it guides consciousness towards greater clarity and truth, supports spiritual awakening and dispels the darkness of the mind: illusions, confusion and ignorance. Invoking Vivasvān thus means welcoming a twofold light: the light that makes the world visible and the light that illuminates consciousness and transforms our being.

For Vivasvan, passing on knowledge means more than sharing what is known. It means inviting people to explore it through direct experience, observe what arises and recognize the habits of thought that shape our perception. Teachings become starting points for a living inquiry rather than answers to adopt. Knowledge is thus cultivated through observation, experimentation and discernment, without confining experience to a predetermined framework.

Understanding what shapes us

The ways we eat, sleep, move and pay attention are rooted in our personal history, culture and living environment. Vivasvan approaches health through these relationships. Anatomy and physiology help us understand how the body functions; each person’s experience places this knowledge in the context of their everyday life.

Naturopathy offers a perspective on lifestyle habits and the conditions that support health. Yoga, through its eight limbs, also opens up an exploration of attention, inner life and our way of relating. These perspectives allow us to question both what we do and what prompts us to do it.

Caring for ourselves also involves how we understand health, welcome our experience and relate to life. Our knowledge and habits can support us; they also deserve to be questioned when they become standards we try to meet. Vivasvan offers a space to explore this relationship, consider our questions more deeply and allow our path to become clearer, with greater discernment, clarity and kindness towards ourselves through life’s varied experiences.
